Rocklin Educational Excellence Foundation Awards Local Teachers With "Great Idea" Grants
(ROCKLIN) – On Nov. 16, the non-profit Rocklin Educational Excellence Foundation (REEF) awarded $16,191 in grants to five teams of teachers and school principals in Rocklin Unified School District. REEF launched its first annual “Great Idea” teacher grant program this fall. Educators were asked to submit ideas to REEF for supplemental funding for programs and resources that promote teacher instruction and student learning. “Rocklin is fortunate to have excellent schools that provide consistent, high-quality education to the children of our community,” said Tom DeLapp, the founding Chairman of the Rocklin Educational Excellence Foundation. However, the state of the economy and the reduction in funding for public education has meant that many essentials can no longer be provided by the district’s General Fund. “That’s where the foundation comes in,” said DeLapp. “By bringing together community and civic leaders we intend to create the additional resources that will maintain the competitive edge for our students. Educational technology, special education, English Language acquisition, college prep, the visual and performing arts, and other vital programs need our support as residents if our students are going to have a rich and diverse educational experience.”
