Rocklin Educational Excellence Foundation Awards Local Teachers With "Great Idea" Grants

(ROCKLIN) – On Nov. 16, the non-profit Rocklin Educational Excellence Foundation (REEF) awarded $16,191 in grants to five teams of teachers and school principals in Rocklin Unified School District. REEF launched its first annual “Great Idea” teacher grant program this fall. Educators were asked to submit ideas to REEF for supplemental funding for programs and resources that promote teacher instruction and student learning.
“Rocklin is fortunate to have excellent schools that provide consistent, high-quality education to the children of our community,” said Tom DeLapp, the founding Chairman of the Rocklin Educational Excellence Foundation. However, the state of the economy and the reduction in funding for public education has meant that many essentials can no longer be provided by the district’s General Fund.
“That’s where the foundation comes in,” said DeLapp. “By bringing together community and civic leaders we intend to create the additional resources that will maintain the competitive edge for our students.  Educational technology, special education, English Language acquisition, college prep, the visual and performing arts, and other vital programs need our support as residents if our students are going to have a rich and diverse educational experience.”

Rocklin Educational Excellence Foundation to Award $10,000 to Rocklin Teachers

The Rocklin Educational Excellence Foundation announced today the “Great Idea Grants” to educators within the Rocklin Unified School District.

Grants will range from $100 to $10,000 and will be awarded to individual teachers, teams of teachers or other certificated district personnel.

The Rocklin Educational Excellence Foundation believes that continuous, insightful and innovative professional training and growth is crucial to the effectiveness of educators. One of the goals of the Foundation is to promote best practices through cooperative and sustained commitment to improved teaching and active learning. As such, the Foundation will value proposals aimed at boosting student understanding and proficiency while instilling a passion for lifelong learning.

“Rocklin is very fortunate to have excellent schools with experienced teachers and other staff who provide consistent, high quality education to the children of our community,” said REEF Chairman, Larry Skidmore. “These Great Idea Grants will be awarded to educators, but the ultimate winners are the students of Rocklin.”

Proposals may request seed money or support for expanding an existing program and will be gauged, among other criteria, on their ability to:

  • Stimulate and motivate students to achieve academic excellence
  • Engage students as active participants in the learning process
  • Encourage specific improvement in students’ skills and attitudes
  • Nurture the students’ desire to learn and create
